Église Saint Georges

Datant du début du XIème siècle et située à l'entrée du bourg de Montreuil, cette église fut érigée par Giroie, le riche seigneur de Montreuil.

On suppose que cette église fut édifiée en lieu et place du monastère détruit au Xème siècle lors des invasions Vikings. Ce même monastère ("monasteriolum" en latin) donna son nom au village de Montreuil. Près d'un demi siècle après sa construction, l'église fut donnée aux moines de St Evroult.

Cette vaste église est placée sous le patronage de St Georges (fêté le 23 avril) représenté par un cavalier en armure terrassant le dragon.

Saint Georges church

This church dates back to the beginning of the eleventh century, it can be found at the entrance of Montreuil marketplace, it was erected by Giroie, Montreuil's rich lord.

This church is thought to have been erected in place of a monastery which was destroyed at the time of Vikings invasions in the tenth century. This monastery gave the village of Montreuil its present name ("monasteriolum" in latin). About half a century after its construction,the church was given to St Evroult monks.

This vast church is placed under the patronage of St Georges (saint's name-day 23rd of april) often represented by a horseman in shiny armour knocking down the dragon.

L'église de St Aquilin d'Augerons

Nichée au creux de la vallée du Guiel dans un site exceptionnel, cette église d'origine Romane fait face à celle de la commune de St Denis. Depuis la réunification de St Aquilin et Montreuil en 1963, l'église de la paroisse de St Aquilin fait partie de la commune de Montreuil-l'Argillé.

L'église de St Aquilin d'Augerons a subi plusieurs importantes restaurations. La première eut lieu en 1878 et la dernière, beaucoup plus récente (en 2002), s'avéra nécessaire suite aux dégâts subis lors de la tempête de 1999. Le concours du conseil général, de la mairie, ainsi que la création d'une association regroupant des habitants de la commune contribuèrent grandement à l'avancée des travaux. A l'intérieur, on peut observer de nombreux éléments remarquables comme ce retable datant de 1849.

St Aquilin d'Augerons church

This Roman church faces St Denis church. Since the reunification of St Aquilin and Montreuil communes in 1963, the church of St Aquilin parish now belongs to Montreuil l'Argillé commune.

St Aquilin d'Augerons church underwent major restorations. The first one took place in 1878 as the last one is much more recent ( 2002). The last restoration proved to be necessary after the damage caused by the fierce storm of 1999. The support from the council of the French department, from Montreuil town hall, as well as the forming of an association gathering the inhabitants of St Aquilin played a major role in the progression of the renovation work. A l'intérieur,The church contains some conspicuous elements such as this altarpiece dating back to 1849.
